We head south, into the icy breath of the Altiplano, toward lands shaped by the wind, where silence reigns; bound for the Salar de Uyuni, southern Lípez, and its volcanoes.
The Salar de Uyuni stretches out like an endless white sea, watched over by Tunupa, the first volcano whose colorful slopes we climb. Further on, Uturuncu calls to us. Sulfur deposits, a mining track that stops at around 5,000 meters: from here, it's a high altitude walk toward an "easy" 6,000 meter peak, so long as the altitude can be tamed...
Then comes Licancabur: a straightforward challenge, serious elevation gain, breath running short. We're right at the Chilean border. We'll also cross the Ciudad de Roma, with its rock cathedrals and lunar corridors.
This is a demanding, no-nonsense circuit, for those who love testing themselves against raw, untamed terrain. Harsh climate, extreme conditions, but a beauty that hits hard. We return to civilization changed...
